This year’s Easter weekend falls very late, starting with Good Friday on 18th April, Easter Day on Sunday 20th April 2025.
This is followed by Easter Bank Holiday Monday on 21st April.
For us here at the Riviera Guesthouse, Whitby, situated on the spectacular Yorkshire Coast, we love freshness and fun Easter brings.

An early Easter, which took place in 2024, is often prone to colder weather.
This is particularly true if Easter falls before the end of March and before the start of British Summer Time.
As you know, by the time Easter arrives in 2025, our family-run business will have been open since 4th April following a winter of refurbishment and renovations.
It was lots of hard work and we also discovered some fascinating finds.
We’ve also got our very What’s On Guide giving our guests an outline of things to do, see and visit in the area.
One of our favourite local attractions is Whitby Abbey, cared for by English Heritage
Whitby Abbey was also involved in deciding when Easter falls each year, which is why Easter has different dates each year.
So we’ll start the Easter Events round-up at this iconic location!
From 5th April, you can join in Whitby Abbey’s Easter Adventures.
Crack the clues hidden away in the abbey ground and enjoy a tasty choccy reward!
Another of our favourite local attractions is the North Yorkshire Moors Railway.
We can often hear the toot! of the steam engines during the summer months.
This heritage railways is hosting a number of events before and during the Easter holidays including:
5th to 8th & 10th to 13th April: Visiting Engine No. 45596 Bahamas
5th to 21st April: Easter Fun including 200 Mile Challenge
And this year, Railway 200 marks the bicentenary of the railway here in the UK.
Whitby Pavilion, which is practically on our doorstep, is hosting a number of live entertainment events, including Sleeping Beauty and other events.
Of course, we are located in one of most stunning places in the UK, and our sister towns and villages are also hosting Spring and Easter events galore.
As schools, colleges and universities break up for the Easter break, on the 12th April 2025, the Scarborough Food and Drink Festival takes place at the stunning Open Air Theatre.
Filey, the beautiful seaside resort south of Scarborough, will feature the first of its celebrated Food Festivals during the Easter weekend.
Scarborough Castle, also cared for by English Heritage, is hosting its own Easter Adventures, too.
As well as the Easter Bunny, which is one of the characters associated with Easter, this celebration wouldn’t be the same without an Easter Egg Hunt!
On Saturday 5th April you could join in the Spring Fossil Forage at Robin Hood’s Bay.
Then on Monday 14th April there will be a Rockpool Rummage at the same location, both events are run by the National Trust, booking required, called 01947 885900 to find out more.
If you’re not egg-cited by the season’s shenanigans, then there are plenty of things to do without an Easter Bonnet in sight!
Why not walk parts of the Cleveland Way National Trail along with lots of other breathtaking walks in the area:
Or enjoy the quaint beauty of nearby Robin Hood’s Bay
The celebrated Whitby Sculpture Trail is open all year round and it’s a fabulous way of taking in parts of Whitby’s history on foot.
Created by Emma Stothard, discover the life-size sculptures dotted around Whitby.
If you love fossils, we have it covered here in Whitby!
And of course, you can’t be by the seaside without tales of the sea, shipwrecks and more.
We have put together our very own ‘places to eat’ guide too so you don’t have to search Google to find out where the local foodies finds are located!
It goes without saying that Whitby is also host to lots of other attractions, including Pannett, Park, Whitby Museum, the RNLI Whitby Museum, the Dracula Experience and lots more.
We are so looking forward to 2025 and its holiday season!
