This year marks the 250th anniversary of Captain Cook’s first Pacific voyage that weighed anchor in 1768. 
 
A local lad, Captain Cook went on to circumnavigate the globe from west to east, so you could say he made the ultimate ‘voyage and return’! 
 
And along the same theme, we’re looking forward to the return of our regular guests, rather like watching out for the returning swallows each summer – we are always delighted to see them!

Our heritage here in Whitby is loudly celebrated, with Whitby Museum, Whitby Abbey, the Captain Cook Memorial Museum and other attractions focusing on our town’s fascinating past.
